What our clients are saying.

Shelly’s story.

Shelly and I had been working together off and on over several years to downsize her possessions. I had moved her out to the beach, but a degenerative disease was taking its toll. She began to see the wisdom in planning for the need for more assistance. She made the decision to return to her NC home after decades of working in Washington DC.

Working in conjunction with the admissions department of the new community Shelly chose, we composed the new apartment from the items she loved the best and supplemented to fill special needs, like just the perfect chair for the computer desk and a small drop leaf table that could comfortably fit four for dinner in an instant.

Some of Shelly’s things that could not find new homes were sold at auction and the remainder were donated to local charities. It is the mission at HomeShift to minimize to the extent practicable the amount of waste that goes to the landfill. Sensitive but outdated documents are sent to a secure facility for shredding and the remainder are recycled.

Shelly had a lovely art collection and we identified the perfect pieces to make her new apartment a home. While we were going through old family photos, I came across a photograph of her high school graduating class. When we moved in, we hung the photo on the door to her apartment and in no time she was reunited with classmates who are now neighbors down the hall.

I also worked closely with Shelly’s realtor in arranging for services to her beach home before putting it on the market. The home was sold in less than a month.
